The preparatory Office of the Institute of Earth Sciences was established on July 1, 1976. The Institute of Earth Sciences set up an advisory committee as the decision-making organization during the preparation period. President Qian Siliang invited twelve domestic and foreign experts and scholars to serve as members, with Mr. Wu Dayou as the chairman.
