TEACHING  PHILOSOPHY

Through lecture courses and practical classes, undergraduate students are provided with a good foundation and a detailed understanding in the solid Earth Sciences, so that they can critically assess new developments in ongoing research. Emphasis is placed on the importance of data collection (including field relationships, and rock and mineral identification in hand sample and under the petrographic microscope), and on quantitative geochemical modeling to infer geological processes on a variety of scales. I believe that progress in the Earth Sciences is made through quantitative modeling of new observations, and therefore I aim to convey to students the importance of data collection and interpretation.

Graduate students are supported in an environment that emphasizes the free exchange of ideas and collaborative research. My own research experience provides the necessary guidance for the development of students into independent researchers.
