 Loan Rules 


Admission Rules 

Please following the rules below to ensure a safe, clean and quiet enviornment in Earth Science Library :
  • Faculty & Staff must have an identification caed to enter the library.
  • Walk-in users must be at least 18 year-olds (the only exception are for the family members of faculty) to apply the Library Card. Or use driver license/ID to exchange for temprory library card to enter the library and return the card on the same day.
  • Please do not bring in any contraband goods, foods, drinks, and pets; Cellular phone must be turned off all the time.
  • No person shall unreasonably interfere with the work or comfort of another person in the Library, by the creation of undue noise, physical violence or by any other unreadonable means whatsever.
  • No photographing or filming be done inside the library. Persons found bringing equipment into the librariy for such purposes, or already in the act of filming, should be asked to leave.

Circulation Rules 

  • Books
    • Welcome to collect the books you want from the open stacks.
    • Please put the books in distribution shelves near the copy area after using.
  • References
    • non-circulating.
  • Journals
    • non-circulating.
    • Paper :Please put back in distribution shelves near the copy area after using/printing.
    • Magazines :All can be checked out excpet current issues.
    • E - Journals :Use of many of these resources is governed by license agreements with the Academia Sinica that restrict use to faculty and staff and affiliated users. It is the responsibility of each user to ensure that he or she abide the copyright reserved of publishers and uses these products only for individual, noncommercial use without printing multiple copies or systematically downloading, distributing, or retaining substantial portions of information.
  • Checking out Items
    • Borrowers can check out items with a valid library card.
  • Loan Periods
    • Books -- 30 days;Journals / References are non-circulating.
    • All checked out items are subject to be recalled after next patron who has placed a hold on them. If an item is recalled, a Recall Notice will be sent to the borrower and he/she should return the items within 3 days.
  • Renewals
    • Patrons with items checked out for longer may renew items in person or online before the due dates.Books can be renewed triple; AV Materials and Magazines can be renewed once each. Please be aware that if another patron has placed a hold, then renewal is prevented.
  • Holds
    • A patron may place a hold on items online through the library catalog or in person at the circulation desk. A pickup notice will be sent to the patron when the book is checked in and it will be held at the circulation desk for no longer than 4 days.
  • Overdue & Fines
    • All overdue items are fined NT$5 per day per item.
  • Long-Term Loan Period
    • Any principal investigators in Division of Earth Sciences of Academia Sinica can check out up to 20 books for one year. All loans are subject to recall when a hold has been placed by another patron after 7 days of the initial loan period has passed.
  • Lost or Damaged Items
    • A borrower will be charged the cost of replacement items and other handling charges when the items are lost or cannot be repaired.
