Photo diary during the flood days
The 16th Typhoon "Nari" caused great damede to the Island wide of Taiwan on the 3rd weekend of September, 2001.
At the Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica, NanKang, Taipei, the muddy water flooded into the basement in 20 minites on the morning of 17th of September, Monday. This is the first flood in the IES. At the moment, Mr. Cheng, Yuan-Shiang, technical staff, shut down the main power in the basement as quickly as possible. His brave action and decision saved the IES from the worst damage on the electric system in whole of building.
During the suffering days, we all were
victims and witness. But now we are savers and reconstructers. And then, as the
Director of Institute Typhoon Lee stated for all staff on his e-mail on Sept. 25, "in
the end, we will be victorious in turning IES into a better yet institute."
I present here a photo diary of our troubled days. This September's incidents may well be in our memory as well as the attacks in NYC and Washington DC on 11th.
This is a record of our extraordinary experience.
